Brazile’s double-double, Davis’ 21 point gives Hogs win over Vanderbilt

Razorbacks used 13-0 run late in first half, opened the second with 12-5 run, never looking back

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Trevon Brazile recorded his first double-double of the year (season-high 16 points and season-high 14 rebounds) while Johnell Davis added 21 points to lead the Razorbacks to a 90-77 victory at Vanderbilt Tuesday night at Memorial Gym.

The Razorbacks used a 13-0 run late in the first half and opened the second with a 12-5 run, including a 7-0 spurt, and never looked back.

Vandy was down as many as 17 with 12 minutes to go in the second but worked its deficit to nine72-63 with 7:35 left.

D.J. Wagner drilled a deep 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to put the Hogs back up by double digits. After the Commodores trimmed their deficit back to nine. Brazile answered with a 3-pointer to put the game out of reach.

After one of its worst shooting performances of the season at South Carolina Saturday, Arkansas bounced back to shoot 50.8% from the field.

The key stat was Arkansas out-rebounding Vandy, 42-31. The 42 boards were the most by the Hogs in an SEC game this year (third-most of the season).

Arkansas blocked eight shots and held Vandy to 38.3% shooting, the lowest by an SEC opponent versus Arkansas this season.

Wagner and Zvonimir Ivisic each scored 14 points and Karter Knox added 10. It was the third time in the last four games the Razorback starting five has scored in double digits.

Tyler Nickel led four Vandy players in double digits with a team-high 16 points.

Arkansas closes the regular-season on Saturday (Mar. 8) by hosting Mississippi State. Tipoff is set for 11 am (CT).

FIRST HALF: Arkansas 43, Vanderbilt 37

• Arkansas was down early but used a 10-1 run to get to within one, 19-18. Vandy answered with a 10-2 run to push its lead to 29-20.

• Down five (35-30) with 3:42 left in the half, Arkansas went on a 13-0 run to go up 43-35 that included two old-fashion, 3-point plays and a highlight real steal and dunk by Trevon Brazile.

• In that run, Arkansas made six straight shots and was 7-of-9 overall from the field while holding Vandy to 1-of-12 shooting from the field.

• Vandy was fouled with 0.5 seconds left and made two free throws to provide the 43-37 halftime score.

• Arkansas shot 51.5% from the field and held Vandy to 28.6% shooting.

• There were 10 blocked shots in the half, six by Arkansas and four by Vandy. There were 19 combined turnovers but only 10 combined steals.

• Johnell Davis led the Razorbacks with 15 points

• Trevon Brazile led the Hogs with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
